The lands were given during the Nizam’s rule and these were not transferable. But land sharks have been eyeing these lands. With the land value in thousands of crores, many encroachments and murders have taken place and very few have come to light. The Bowenpally kidnap was regarding these lands only. A case was registered against the former minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and an inquiry was also going on. Though the name of Akhila Priya has come out, many things have happened in these lands and cases are under court’s purview.
During the Nizam’s rule, as part of the construction of Railway line, in the suburbs of Hyderabad like Ibrahimpatnam, Patancheru areas, the lands belonged to Khursid Jahi, Chavus and the Nawab family. The lands at Hafeezpet, Hydernagar were given to the family by the 7th Nizam. Later, these lands came under the government’s control after the cancellation of Jagirdari system and land reforms. The Paigah successors, land beneficiaries and some other people from Golkonda approached the court. The case began in 1958 and interim orders were passed after ten years. However, with petitioners not responding, these orders were not implemented. Many had no interests in the land because of the rocky area.
Later, with the national highway, colonies coming up, the land dealings started in the area. People say that earlier the land was available for Rs 15,000 per square yard. During 1989-90, one businessman Saber was murdered here and his father attacked some people in Begum Bazar with bombs. Later, Shilparamam, IT companies, Hitec City and colonies in Kondapur coming up, increased the value of these lands. Many murders have taken place earlier in the name of Hafeezpet lands.
The issue of the land dispute has once again come up with the involvement of Akhila Priya. Her brother Jagat Vikhyat Reddy made a sensational comment that there was a role of a minister and an MP in the land issue. A senior journalist who was part of Telangana agitation Pasham Yadagiri and former Maoist leader Gade Innaiah have made allegations against the government. They have alleged that 30 leaders from one caste from Medak, Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy and Nalgonda are involved in this. It appears that the land issue is unlikely to be sorted out soon.
