Criticism has already begun over the attitude of the Jagan government towards the construction of the Ramayapatnam port. There is already a commotion over the fact that most of the land in the Nellore district is being considered for land acquisition, even though the Ramayapatnam port is located in the Prakasam district. Also, the decision taken by the Jagan government in the past has now totally misfired as they had sought funds for the construction of Ramayapatnam port, instead of Dugarajapatnam port as per the Partition Act.
Adding to the woes, discussions began in February last year when a notification was received to degrade the port to a non-major port, and in this case, the state government’s decision is final. On the other hand, major ports are likely to be funded by the Centre. At the same time, the Center has to be informed about the decisions to be taken regarding the port and the Center has to be made a partner. However, there were criticisms over the Jagan government downgrading the Ramayapatnam major port to a non-major port. It is being speculated that the decision was taken to hand over the management responsibilities to the private sector before the construction of the port is completed in the next period.
