Farmers have violated the police restrictions set on the occasion of Republic Day to undertake the tractor rally by protesting against the new farm laws. The agitating farmers have made it clear that they would not relent until and unless the farm laws are totally withdrawn.
On the other hand, several farmers managed to break through barricades and overpower police security to enter the Red Fort. They even planted the farmers’ flag atop the historic fort by scaling the flag pole. For over an hour the farmers were seen atop the Red Fort. However, the Delhi Police had to ensure that the situation does not go out of control and managed to pacify the farmers from leaving the fort.
The Delhi Police also requested the protesting farmers to maintain calm, and not to take law into their own hands. However, as the farmers broke barricades and tried to overpower security personnel at Mukarba Chowk, the police had to baton charge the farmers and use tear gas to disperse them.
