The tractor rally by farmers protesting against the contentious farm laws took a violent turn. Clashes broke out between the farmers and police personnel when several farmers barged into Red Fort ahead of the permitted time and hoisted the farmer’s flag at around 2 pm. This also led to a verbal duel between the farmers and police personnel. In a bid to stop the agitated farmers from entering the Red Fort, the police fired tear gas and even began baton charging them, in these clashes a farmer lost his life.

With a farmer losing his life, the farmer unions targeted police vehicles and this led to heightened tensions prevail in the area. However, with lakhs of farmers protesting against the farm laws the police were totally overpowered. In order to curb any untoward incidents, the Delhi Metro Corporation shut down twenty stations, which include Delhi Central, Delhi North, ITO, Indraprastha and Lal Kila.
