It was on this day, exactly five years ago on October 22, 2015, that PM Modi had laid the foundation stone for the people’s capital of Amaravati, which was planned to be built as a world class city by the previous chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. However, all dreams turned to dust after four years with the present AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy announcing a three-capital plan in the state.
Amaravati a people’s capital forever
It is known that Amaravati was chosen as the ideal location for the capital for its close proximity to the other areas in the state. Also, the presence of Krishna river would cater to the water needs of the capital without any worry especially during Summer, as it is known that great civilisations built close to water bodies had always flourished.
Above all, around twenty-nine thousand farmers without taking a rupee had voluntarily given up 34,000 acres following the assurance of the state government in building a world class futuristic capital for the five crore citizens of Andhra Pradesh.
Everything was set, all resources acquired and construction too began with several educational institutions, high court and the secretariat built that instilled hopes among the farmers. All official residential complexes ready and the seed access road too was 90% completed. However, post-elections the complete scenario transformed, leaving the dreams of 5 crore Andhra people totally shattered.
Amaravati looks towards PM Modi
On the occasion of the 5-yr completion of Amaravati dream capital, the JAC has decided to hold a massive rally titled ‘Amaravati looks towards PM Modi’. All farmers and leaders will walk from Rayapudi village to Uddandarayunipalem, where the foundation stone for Amaravati was laid. Later in the evening, a candlelight rally will also be held.
