Doctors and paramedical personnel are earning laurels worldwide for putting their lives at risk in serving Covid-19 patients. But the situation is different in Andhra Pradesh where government doctors are furious at the treatment meted out to them by the government. They are planning to express their dissatisfaction at the negligent attitude of the government by staging protests for two days.
Government Doctors’ Association leader Dr. Jayadheer said all the government doctors are facing severe problems in discharging their duties during the pandemic. Stating that they are risking their lives in performing their duties, he demanded that the government pay Rs. 50 lakh in addition to the statutory ex gratia to the families of doctors who died treating Covid patients.
“There is no response to the notification issued to recruit special doctors. The government has to announce new pay revision,” he said while adding that they were going to stage protest programmes from Tuesday, August 25. “A 10-minute candle rally will be followed by silent protests,” he added.
Dr. Jayadheer said they will announce their future course of action if the government continued to ignore their protests. But he made it clear that they would carry out their agitation while serving the patients.
Services of doctors as front line warriors in fight against Covid-19 are incomparable. But the government’s apathetic and negligent attitude is causing severe anguish among them.
