Digital platforms have opened the floodgates for experiments and young filmmakers are utilising it to the maximum extent. Another experimental flick that hit Amazon Prime this Friday is Gatham which was made on the concept of memory loss. Let’s review it!
Plot
This is the story of a guy named Rishi who forgets his past. Aditi, his girlfriend assists him to meet his dad. They meet a stranger in their journey who comes to their rescue as their car encounters a problem. Before they know anything about him, this unknown person starts posing danger to them and the rest of the story constitutes the mystery behind Rishi’s past and his relation with the unknown man.
Analysis
Direction and cinematography are the main assets of Gatham. Rakesh Galebhe, Poojitha Kurapathi and Bhargava Poludasu have done decent jobs in essaying their respective roles. Director Kiran Kondamadugula became successful in sustaining the suspense factor till the very end. Sricharan Pakala’s background score elevated the mood of the film to the next level.
Since there is every possibility to reveal the spoilers if we dig deep into the story, we are just employing a superficial approach in this review. Gatham will remind you of B-grade indie Hollywood stuff you usually encounter in films like Wrong Turn series. Speaking frankly, you have to keep your brain aside to enjoy this thrill ride.
These types of films require a gripping narrative and considerable experience on the part of its makers. The director and the team are a bunch of amateurs and expecting too much from them will be a crime. Indeed, we have to appreciate their attempt!
