SS Rajamouli is not simply a director but a visionary who took Telugu cinema to places. His Baahubali made Indian cinema come out of its run-of-the-mill labyrinth and achieve international standards. He is a torch-bearer for the regional cinema to venture into unchartered territories with confidence. That’s why Telugu cinema is segregated into Before Baahubali and After Baahubali now. Rajamouli is celebrating his birthday today and TLN wishes him many happy returns of the day.
Telugu cinema started its journey in 1932 and achieved many milestones in 85 years of its glorious history. Rajamouli announced Baahubali with Prabhas in 2011 and started shooting in 2013. The first part Baahubali: The Beginning was released in 2015 which was made with a budget of Rs.180crores. It went on to collect a whopping Rs.650crores during its theatrical run.
The second instalment Baahubali: The Conclusion which was made with Rs.250crores collected Rs. 2000crores approximately owing to its international release. It competed with Aamir Khan’s Dangal. Now the collection records of Tollywood are divided into Baahubali and Non-Baahubali categories. Just as legendary director Dasari Narayana Rao used to say, “Cinema is a director’s medium,”Rajamouli put directors back into the driving chair again. Rajamouli stands as a perfect example for a visionary who possesses immaculate forecasting prowess coupled with ground reality.
SS Rajamouli is currently filming RRR with NTR and Ram Charan. He resumed its shoot recently after taking a seven month hiatus due to the COVID pandemic.
Happy birthday to the pride of India….S.S Rajamouli..
