About 3 lakh farmers are protesting in Delhi for the last 50 days demanding cancellation of Farm Acts. Presently the Supreme Court has given a stay and found fault with the government for delaying the decision in the name of talks at a time when the farmers are dying in severe cold and rain. The non-BJP parties also sided with the farmers. The Congress party has decided to attack the ruling BJP with the help of opposition parties in Parliament starting from 29th of this month.
Congress has been supporting the farmers but it is limited to media conferences as the farmers are indulging in talks with the government. With this, there is no role of theirs in the agitation. Sensing this, Congress president Sonia Gandhi approached opposition parties to corner the government in Parliament.
There are many senior leaders in Congress party and neither are they doing their work nor do they allow the youth to take over. The position of the party is like a regional party. They could not find a star that can bring them back into power. With no encouragement in Congress, they are joining BJP. The analysts are saying that the seniors should take rest and give the opportunity to the youth.
Though the leaders can make strategies by sitting in A/C rooms, there should be a leader who can take them to the people. Rahul Gandhi being a part-time politician has been a curse for the Congress party. It can be said that he is failing to expose the BJP for its failures. While Congress was in power, there was a mass agitation on Nirbhaya gang rape. Though there are many such incidents now, then neither the Congress nor the opposition parties are raising their voice. The Congress is unable to seize the opportunity in the farmers’ agitation hence Sonia Gandhi’s efforts to unite the opposition is good. It is said that in the meantime Supreme Court may stop the implementation of the Acts and if this happens Congress leaders would have to fight amongst themselves.
