Congress high command has set a task before the leaders who are vying for top posts, including Pradesh Congress Committee chief post, in Telangana. The leadership has asked the contenders to show their mettle in the upcoming graduate constituency MLC elections. The Gandhi Bhavan corridors are abuzz that AICC has decided to remove the current PCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
The competition for the post is intense. Apart from senior leader V Hanumantha Rao, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Jagga Reddy and Revanth Reddy are in the race. Venkat Reddy, who is also an MP, declared that he is ready to spend as much as the party needs to come back to power in the next elections.
On his part, Jagga Reddy says that he has many plans to strengthen the party if he is made the president. Malkajgiri MP and working president Revanth Reddy appealed directly to Sonia Gandhi to make him PCC chief.

On the other hand, senior leader V Hanumantha Rao is pleading with the party high command that BCs should be given the reins of the party this time in the state. He is presenting himself as the only qualified BC leader, given his seniority and his record of running the party efficiently when it was in crisis in the past.
Dasoju Shravan, who is a Dalit leader, is directly lobbying with Rahul Gandhi for the top post. He attracted the attention of Gandhi scion by translating his speeches during public meetings last year. After being appointed as AICC spokesperson, Shravan is now lobbying for the PCC chief post.
MLC election
Even as Congress leaders are engaged in lobbying for the PCC post, the high command is said to have linked the post with the outcome of MLC poll results. It thinks ensuring victory for party candidates is the criterion for the efficiency of candidates for the PCC post. Apart from Congress, ruling TRS and BJP are bent on winning these polls.
Congress leaders are busy getting voters to enroll their names and holding meetings at local level. At this juncture, the talk in party circles is that party high command offered to reward the leader who ensures victory of party candidates in his respective constituency and district in the MLC elections. Following this condition, Congress leaders are said to be sweating it out to ensure the victory of party candidates.
