Time travel is a concept that catches the imagination of kids and adults alike. Movies on time travel became big hits in Hollywood. Movies featuring time travel are very rare on the Indian screen as our viewers are not big fans of science fiction movies. Singeetham Srinivasa Rao’s ‘Aditya 369’ with Balakrishna enticed Telugu audiences a lot as it portrays the complex time travel concept in a very entertaining matter. Suriya’s ‘24’, ‘Fun2shh’, ‘Love Story 2050’ and ‘Indru Netru Naalai’ are some of the films that are based on time travel.
After all these years, a time travel movie is going to hit our silver screens. This time it is made with a whopping Rs.500 crores with none other than Prabhas. ‘Vyjayanthi Movies’ is bankrolling this Nag Ashwin’s directorial and Deepika Padukone is playing the female lead. Though people have anticipated it to be an action thriller or socio-fantasy or folklore, grapevine says it is made on time travel.
This got confirmed after the inclusion of legendary director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao into the team. ‘Aditya 369’ was released in 1991 and went on to become a smashing hit. Singeetham handled it very well by showcasing the complex concept in an understandable manner to the masses. Nag Ashwin is now using Singeetham’s experience and taking his valuable inputs for his magnum opus.
Earlier, Singeetham wanted to do a sequel to ‘Aditya 369’ with Balakrishna in the lead. He also titled it as ‘Aditya 999’, but the project failed to take off for unknown reasons. As Vyjayanthi banner has taken up this concept now, that too with Prabhas, we have to wait and see how it shapes up. Inside sources say that this film resembles Nicholas Cage’s ‘Next’.
