SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away this afternoon in ‘MGM Healthcare’ hospital, Chennai. He was admitted in the hospital on 5th of August for COVID-19 infection. Though he was tested negative by the end of August, Covid related ailments bothered him. He continued to be in care. Recently his son SP Charan told the media that his father is responding to the treatment and will recover soon, but his condition worsened on Thursday and speculations began to circulate on his condition. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also enquired about Balu’s health condition. Even though doctors tried their best, his ailments overpowered him and the great singer left us today.
SPB is known for his multi-talented prowess as singer, actor, music director, dubbing artist, TV host and producer. He was born on June 4th, 1946 in Konetammapeta. Balu’s father Sambamurthy was a famous ‘Harikatha’ renderer. He has two brothers and five sisters. He discontinued his ‘A.M.I.E’ course to join films as a singer. He made his debut in ‘Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna’ produced by veteran actor Padmanabham. He sung more than 41 thousand songs in 17 languages.
Tamil director Venkat Prabhu who is the son of Balu’s friend Gangai Amara, tweeted about his death. SP Balasubrahmanyam earlier toured the world along with Ilayaraja and Gangai Amaran.
