Post the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into two states, Amaravati was chosen as the capital of the residual state. Five years ago, on October 22, 2020, PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation for the people’s capital of Andhra Pradesh.
In the previous TDP regime, the capital land development works had begun with all the administration working out of Amaravati. However, the works stalled following the YSRCP Government assuming power. Then the decision made by AP CM YS Jagan regarding a three-capital plan for the state drew severe flak from the public.
From the moment, the AP CM made the announcement, farmers from the villages under the capital region who gave away 34,000 acres of their lands began to hold protests. As days passed by, neither the PM nor the CM has broken their silence on the Amaravati issue. Hence, they have decided to take their protests on social media.
Social media platforms as a battleground
Andhraites took to social media to seek justice for the Amaravati issue on the occasion of the completion of five years of the foundation stone laying ceremony. They are tagging PM Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and AP CM YS Jagan on Twitter to express their support to Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh.
