Solipeta Ramalingareddy (59), MLA of the ruling TRS party representing Dubbaka has died due to a heart stroke during the early hours of Thursday at a private hospital in Hyderabad. As per emerging reports, the four-time legislator was admitted to the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology last week due to ill health. He was also being treated for an infection in the leg.
Ramalingareddy is survived by wife Sujatha Reddy, son Satish Reddy and daughter Udayasri.
Known as ‘People’s MLA’, Ramalingareddy earned much respect in the constituency because of his humility and soft-spoken demeanour. The late MLA worked with various newspapers as a journalist before entering into politics. He was first elected as a legislator from Dubbaka in 2004. He was re-elected in the 2008 by-election. He lost in 2009 and has won consecutive terms in 2014 and 2018.
Raju Kummari, a TRS party worker from Chegunta says, “He was always accessible to people and party workers. He would pick up phone calls during all times and solve our issues without delay. He will be missed by us all.”
Party colleagues and Ministers Harish Rao and Eatala Rajender had paid a visit to the hospital earlier this week to check on Ramalingareddy’s health. Many TRS leaders recalled his active participation in Telangana statehood movement and mourned over the demise of their colleague.
Ramalingareddy’s last rites will be performed at Chittapur, Dubbak mandal.
