The current situation in the State remains far from normal for Congress. Given the series of electoral debacles it has been facing in the parliament, assembly and local body elections; it is worried if it can ever regain lost glory. Yet, the Telangana Congress seems to have not learnt any lessons from its past mistakes. Group politics, internal feuds to protect their own seats and open bickering has led the grand old party on a path of self destruction. It is no match to the much organized and efficiently run TRS.
With just three months left for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, the Congress is going into a huddle, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy called for a meeting on Friday with key leaders, MLAs, MLCs, MPs and seven mandal party presidents from the Dubbaka Assembly constituency. The meeting which was be attended by AICC Telangana in-charge Kuntia as the chief guest was convened to chalk out a strategy for GHMC elections and the Dubbaka by-election. Nothing concrete came out of the meeting.
Lessons not learnt by the Congress
With only three months left until elections, the Congress party it is yet to appoint division-level committees in GHMC and its affiliated wings. In comparison, the ruling TRS is far ahead of it and preparing its leaders and cadre to take the plunge. Lack of coordination among party leaders and criticising one another in full public view is sullying its own image among its cadre and support base. The national party with decades of ruling experience is not able to withstand the onslaught of TRS. As the principal opposition party, Congress is failing to stand up for people and agitate over the anti-people policies of the government.
Earlier, breaking all the expectations, YS Rajasekhara Reddy was able to bring along leaders of all shades and colours within the Congress to topple TDP which was a formidable political force in united Andhra Pradesh. The Congress in Telangana is lacking such leaders who can keep the party’s interest above their own.
