The drug-film world nexus is already hitting Bollywood hard, followed by several arrests being made in Sandalwood (Kannada film industry). Will Tollywood come under the scanner next?
Given the current pace of investigations into the Rhea Chakraborty’s case by multiple agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), there is every reason to believe that the investigation agencies are going all out to unearth the secrets of the dark world thriving beneath the glamourous film world.
Sources say that the Union Home Minister has asked the central investigating agencies, to go after any and everyone involved in the illegal activity. After getting a clear message from the bosses at Delhi, it is only a matter of time before the who’s who of Bollywood come under its scanner. Since drug crimes are a federal offence, nothing is going to stop the NCB from summoning Rakul Preet Singh to find out her side of the story.
To take the investigation to its logical conclusion, the NCB might summon close friends of the actress also which is worrying the Tollywood now. The NCB might ask the Telangana State Excise and Prohibition Department to share the case files of investigation and evidence collected in the drug scandal that rocked the Tollywood in 2017. After proactive investigation by Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Akun Sabharwal IPS, the case has gone into cold storage for the last three years. More than 60 people were interrogated as part of the investigation. Meanwhile, the State BJP which is waiting in the wings to take on the ruling TRS has already stepped up its ante demanding a ‘cleanup’ of Tollywood.
It is to be noted that Rakul Preet Singh had earlier acted as a brand ambassador for the ‘Say No to Drugs’ campaign initiated by the Telangana government.
