Leaders coming from districts, party cadre and ordinary people had easy access to YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Meeting YSR at 5 am in the camp office was a daily ritual. This is history. In Jagan’s era, this is not so easy.
Jagan is not just the son of the late chief minister, but also the head of a strong industrial empire managed by his family members. It is becoming increasingly impossible to meet YSR Congress party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who resides in palatial buildings. There is no need to ask such questions. No matter how big someone is, one needs to remain humble and accessible. Many big leaders will swear by these qualities when asked how they were able to win people.
Take the case of Congress party Chief Sonia Gandhi. If anyone wants to meet her at 10, Janpath, they need to bow their heads at the entrance door since it is deliberately made short, indirectly signifying that one needs to be humble in life, no matter how influential or big they are. Jagan might know, how his father had to work hard to get the appointment of the UPA chairperson. It is said that the youth leader couldn’t digest the fact that he had to spend several months in jail on corruption charges.
Jagan has the habit of mentioning about his father often. At the same time, he is unable to behave like his father is his mannerism. However, people who recollect YSR have raised doubts as to why Jagan isn’t able to provide appointments to hear the concerns of the people like his father used to. Forget about appointments at 5 o’clock in the morning, at least during the day.
Many are finding fault with the approach of Jagan, who gives very less time to a very few people. A member of his close circle opines, “At a time when there is a trend to fix all the affairs through trusted persons, what is the need for Jagan to give appointment and listen to them?”
Sounds true at the outset, but will it work in the long term is the question.
