Konda Surekha and Murali are well-known BC leaders in Telangana. They used to have strong grasp of Warangal district until state bifurcation and frequent shift in their political faiths made them fade away in the competition. It seems that they are again trying to beef up their prominence in the constituency now.
Sources say that Konda couple is focusing on the upcoming municipal corporation elections in Warangal Urban district. They started inviting ‘unhappy’ leaders from TRS into Congress. Even though Surekha contested last time from Parakala constituency, she is now targeting Warangal East and focusing all her activity there. They are thinking that victory in municipal elections would boost the confidence in the party and can act as a stepping stone for 2024 elections. They are primarily targeting Warangal East MLA Narendar and is eager to defeat him in the upcoming MLA elections.
Konda Surekha and Murali are participating in campaigns in every division of the constituency and are trying to gather the lost loyal voter base of Congress. Even though municipal elections are six months away, they have started locking horns with leaders and local TRS cadre which has become a matter of concern for the ruling party.
Surekha is known for her firebrand nature. They shifted to YSRCP after the demise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy. From there, they entered TRS and exited it after criticizing both KCR and KTR. Finally, they came back to their old pavilion Congress and contested from Parakala in 2018. Surekha lost at the hands of TRS candidate Challa Dharma Reddy by a huge margin of 46,519 votes. She had earlier contested from Warangal East in 2014 and won over Basavaraju Sarayya.
