Vijayashanti, an actor turned politician and Congress leader is in the headlines for her homecoming post two decades. Yes! The firebrand leader is all set to join the BJP right ahead of the Hyderabad GHMC elections. It was in 1998 that the lady superstar had made her political debut with the BJP as the secretary of the BJP’s Women’s Wing. She is the third political leader to join the BJP after Khushbu Sundar and former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana.
The 54-yr old former Lok Sabha MP after her stint with the BJP had joined the TRS and won as an MP from Medak and later switched sides to the Congress in 2014. The AICC had even appointed Vijayashanti as the star campaigner and advisor to the election campaign committee of Telangana PCC. However, with the Congress losing the polls and those who won leaving the party, even Vijayashanti went off the grid. However, except for press meets she never ventured out in public.
Vijayashanti joining the BJP will be a huge advantage in Tamil Nadu where Assembly Elections are to be held in 2021. It is known that Vijayashanti, had vowed her support to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and had been a star campaigner for then-Chief Jayalalitha in 1996. Also, her presence in the BJP ahead of the Hyderabad GHMC elections will definitely strengthen the party cadre, who are on a high following the Dubbaka poll victory.
