BJP AP President Somu Veerraju was on Tuesday taken into custody by police at the Ramatheertham junction in Vizianagaram district. The Chalo Ramatheertham Dharma Yatra planned by BJP and JanaSena parties protesting the beheading of the 400-yr old Lord Ram idol turned violent with the police having denied the permit. When the leaders from both parties were gearing up for the event to be held at 8 AM, they were house arrested. Among those held was the BJP AP Chief Somu Veerraju. The police have imposed Section 30 warned against taking out a rally to Ramatheertham. In a bid to curb untoward incidents, the AP Police as a precautionary measure arrested the BJP Chief along with several other BJP leaders. The developments led to a scuffle between the police and BJP supporters, thereby causing tension in the area.
Minister Vellampalli must resign: Somu
“The government allowed TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP MP V Vijayasai Reddy. But it has prevented our tour. The government is adopting double standards. All the Hindu religion followers were shocked with the incident at historic Ramatheertham temple. That is why the party is very keen for the immediate arrest of the culprits. It is the failure of the government to nab them although the incident took place eight days ago,” Somu Veerraju said, adding that in spite of having prior permission they were being apprehended and even sought the immediate resignation of AP Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao.
