The deadly Covid19 pandemic that wreaked havoc in many nations, has affected our nation too in may ways. Above one crore people in the nation have fallen prey to the virus and over one lakh forty-five thousand people lost their lives. However, it is really assuring that we have developed two vaccines to fight this deadly virus indigenously – Covaxin and Covishield. Both the vaccines would be out shortly as the Centre has planned to inoculate citizens from the 16th of January. The Centre which has announced free vaccination for all plans to recover the revenue spent in the form of Coronavirus cess.

Corona cess on all
Recently, the Centre gave its emergency approval to two firms for its Covid19 vaccines. Covaxin and Covishield will be bought by the Centre and distributed to the public free of cost. With a single dose costing Rs 230, two doses would be Rs 460. Now, taking into consideration the logistics, storage and other expenditure, it would cost the Centre Rs 600 per person towards vaccination. Hence, to inoculate a population of 136 crores it would cost the government Rs 81,600 crores. Now, as per Centre’s plans to vaccinate even half the population, it would cost Rs 40,000 crores. In order to recover this amount spent, the government mulls imposing Corona cess. It is learned that the government is planning to recover Rs 40,000 crores in 2021 itself, in addition to the GST by imposing Corona cess.
