Maidanam is the most controversial of the Telugu novels which gave a jolt to the complacence of the then literary ambiance. It was written by Chalam in 1927 and termed as one of the greatest works of Telugu literature. Maidanam focuses on the plight of the women who were clutched in the conservative family system in the pre-Independence era. Chalam satires on marriage, freedom, and moral obligations and stresses on the ill-treatment of women as mere objects.
Venu Udugula who made films like Needi Naadi Oke Katha and Virataparvam is stepping into the producer’s shoes for Maidanam. This Aha original will be directed by Kavi Siddharth and the makers have announced it officially at a grand event organized by the OTT team on Diwali. Maidanam will be made on a medium budget and the makers have already started its shoot. Let’s wait and see how this controversial novel translates on to the screen.
