A documentary film titled “I Rise”, based on the life history of Indian boxer Sarita Devi, won the prestigious best documentary film at the 9th Mumbai Short International film festival. The result was announced yesterday in Mumbai. Helmed by the National award-winning film marker “Borun Thokchom,” the film showcases the ups and downs of India’s Ace boxer career. The boxer was born in a poor family in Thoubal Khunou in the Thoubal district of Manipur. She was conferred with the Arjuna award in 2009. Recently, the boxer bagged a gold medal in the Indian Open Boxing Tournament held in Guwahati. The film was one among the 19 films that have been officially selected for the competition. A total of 392 films from 55 countries are competing for awards in various categories.

Earlier in October, the film bagged the best film on Women outstanding achievement award at the Tagore International Film festival 2020, that was held in West Bengal. Both Sarita Devi and Mary Kom, belonging to Manipur, have made it big in the boxing arena and holds the exceptional record.
