One cannot forget the barbaric incident that happened to Disha near Shamshabad, Hyderabad in 2019. This incident made us rethink about the safety of women residing in the nation. Telangana Police killed the accused in an encounter following the protests across the nation. Ram Gopal Varma who makes films on contemporary issues made a movie based on this incident named Disha Encounter. This maverick director even released the trailer of it which shocked the audiences.
Recently, Disha’s father Sridhar Reddy warned RGV to stop the release of the film. Family members of the four deceased also approached the courts to stop the film and both the parties consulted Supreme Court’s Judicial Commission requesting it to look into the matter.
Kith and kin of Jollu Siva, Jollu Naveen, Chennakesavulu and Mohammed Arif appealed to high court to stall the film as it puts their personal freedom at stake. They also said that this film will have a negative impact on the teenagers and society and thus requested the justice system’s intervention into the matter. Let us wait and see how courts decide the matter before them.
