Tamilisai Soundararajan took over additional charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, on Thursday at 9 AM. President Ram Nath Kovind had issued the warrant of appointment to Tamilisai, having sacked Kiran Bedi, a former IPS officer who had been in the post since May 2016. V Narayanasamy, the Chief Minister of Puducherry had attended the oath-taking ceremony held at the Raj Niwas. It is known that Tamilisai Soundararajan serves as the present Governor of Telangana. The Puducherry CM along with Deputy Speaker MNR Balan and Government whip RKR Anandaraman felicitated the new Lt Governor on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the development assumes significance given the fact that the Union Territory will witness the Legislative Assembly election in the coming months between April and May.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Puducherry L-G Kiran Bedi have been harassing the Congress government for four and a half years. They are trying to dissolve the regime. We are working to dissolve the cabinet headed by CM Narayanasamy and win the assembly elections again,” Kandaswamy, the Minister for Social Welfare in Puducherry said, amidst a major political shakeup as several Congress Legislators tendered their resignation prior to the Assembly elections.
