Courtroom dramas have a very special place in the viewers’ hearts. High-voltage performances, gripping screenplay and suspense elements make them interesting. In the past, Tollywood had produced a lot of films in this genre which were successful. This genre is now in revival mode after several films have been announced.
Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Vakeel Saab’
‘Vakeel Saab’ marks the beginning of Pawan’s second innings after his loss in elections. It is a remake of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee starrer ‘Pink’. It was earlier remade in Tamil as ‘Nerkonda Parvai’ by H Vinoth. This Ajith-starrer registered tremendous success at the Tamil box office. The plot revolves around an incident that happens between boys from affluent families and a group of young girls. When consent is not taken and trust is broken, the issue is taken to the court of law. Rest of the story constitutes the efforts of a lawyer who fights the case on behalf of the girls. The script was heavily tweaked to accommodate the image of Ajith and the same thing is happening now in the case of Pawan’s ‘Vakeel Saab’. Sruthi Hassan is playing the female lead in this film.
Allari Naresh’s ‘Naandi’
Allari Naresh is not in the best of form lately as people are staying away from his slapstick comedies. He is now trying to experiment with various characters and one such film is ‘Naandi’. He plays the character of an innocent man who gets arrested in a case and sent to jail. A criminal lawyer believes in his innocence and the rest of the plot is about her fight to get him released. Allari Naresh even went to the extent of going nude in a scene and it shows his commitment to change his image. Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar plays the lawyer role in this Vijay Kanakamedala’s directorial.
RGV’s ‘Murder’
This is based on the sensational real life incident of Pranay and Amrutha. Amrutha’s father Maruthi Rao killed Pranay with the help of contract killers and was jailed. He committed suicide recently. The film explores the drama aspect of this incident according to Varma. It is being told in the perspective of Maruthi Rao and has some really interesting court scenes.
Satyadev’s ‘Timmarusu
Lockdown catapulted the image of versatile actor Satyadev to the next level and he has emerged as the most bankable star on OTT. His upcoming film ‘Timmarusu’ was announced recently under the direction of Saran Koppisetty. First look poster with “Goddess of justice” teases us about its courtroom genre. Let’s see which of these courtroom dramas rings the cash registers at the box office.
