A former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Motilal Vohra breathed his last due to post-Covid complications on Monday. He was 93. The nonagenarian who had been hospitalised in AIIMS due to Covid in October was discharged after testing negative but recently was admitted to the Escorts Hospital in Delhi and put-on ventilator for urinary and lung infection. His last rites will be held in Chhattisgarh.
Motilal Vohra was born on December 20, 1927, in Nagaur district, Rajasthan to Mohanlal Vora and Amba Bai. He got his education from Raipur and Kolkata and worked for several newspaper firms. In 1968 Vohra made his political debut having joined the Samajwadi Party, and in 1970 joined the Indian National Congress. Later in 1972, 1977 and 1980, Vohra was elected to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He also served as an MoS in Arjun Singh’s Cabinet and was also appointed the in-charge of Higher Education Department. In 1983, he was elevated to Cabinet Minister rank and from 1981-1984 he also served as Deputy Chairman of Madhya Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. Vohra was appointed the CM of Madhya Pradesh on 13 March 1985 till his resignation from the post on 13 February 1988 to join the Union Government.
