In what could be termed a mysterious illness, on Sunday, around two hundred people irrespective of age experienced symptoms like seizures, vomiting, giddiness, severe headache and foaming at the mouth. The incident triggered a panic like situation in the town. Amongst 140 people who were rushed to the Eluru Government Hospital, some of them were treated for fits and later discharged. However, authorities and doctors were unable to ascertain the cause, as blood reports of those affected patients turned out to normal.
AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy will meet those hospitalized at the Eluru Government Hospital on Monday. The government stated though water samples from 22 localities were tested for contamination and blood reports of patients diagnosed for Covid, the results turned out to be negative. On the other hand, the tests related to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome will be out today. Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, the deputy chief minister of Andhra Pradesh who has been monitoring the condition said that medical camps have been set up and efforts are being made to identify the cause. A door-to-door survey has also been initiated to understand the health condition of the public.
“With more than 250 people now affected, the situation in Eluru is worsening. I demand an impartial, full-fledged inquiry into the incident. Floods, cyclone or healthcare, the YSRCP Govt has been caught napping in emergency situations,” Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the former AP CM and current leader of opposition tweeted, adding that the government negligence and deterioration of medical healthcare in the state has been exposed.
