Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s career consists of more remakes than straight films. This started from his second film ‘Gokulamlo Seetha’ and continued till ‘Katamarayudu’. His films such as ‘Suswagatham’, ‘Tammudu’, ‘Kushi’ and ‘Annavaram’ entertained audiences and his fans alike. Some of his movies were remade into Tamil and tasted success there.
Even though Tamil remakes fetched him stardom, Pawan’s Hindi remakes amassed huge craze for him. ‘Tammudu’ which came in the initial days of Pawan Kalyan’s career was a huge blockbuster. It is the remake of Bollywood film ‘Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar’. His portrayal of a reckless youngster who learns ‘Kickboxing’ for his brother and father and excels in it was received well by the viewers. The original had Aamir Khan and Ayesha Jhulka in the lead roles and was based on bicycle racing. Director PA Arun Prasad changed the original script by integrating elements that suit our nativity and bagged a huge success in his debut film as a director. Pawan’s ‘Teenmaar’ which was a remake of ‘Love Aaj Kal’ was released in 2011 but went on to become a disaster.
‘Gabbar Singh’ which stood as the highest grosser in Power Star’s career was the remake of Salman Khan’s Dabangg. Director Harsih Shankar retained the cop character and changed the remaining story by infusing a dose of heavy humour. His role as a ‘hyper’ cop set the screens on fire and catapulted Pawan’s image to the next level.
‘Gopala Gopala’ which was a multi-starrer had Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh in lead roles. Pawan played the character of modern Lord Krishna. It was released in January of 2015 and went on to become an average grosser. While Shankar’s ‘I’ which was released alongside ‘Gopala Gopala’ became a flop, the latter turned out to be a safe venture for the makers.
Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film ‘Vakeel Saab’ is the remake of Amitabh Bachhan and Taapsee starrer ’Pink’. The script is said to have been altered to accommodate Pawan’s image and is going to complete its shooting soon. Let’s see whether the Bollywood sentiment works this time or not for Power Star.
