Kalvakuntla Kavitha has won the Nizamabad MLC by-election as expected. Conversation among political circles is whether the former TRS MP gets a berth in her father’s cabinet. Though, Kavitha’s supporters believe that she will get the cabinet berth, others have expressed doubts over her getting the ministerial berth so soon. Now, whether Kavitha will get the berth or not, is a trending topic in Telangana politics.
Discussions on portfolio
The Telangana CM’s daughter, Kalvakuntla Kavitha who played a crucial role in the statehood movement and got elected as Lok Sabha MP from Nizamabad Parliamentary Constituency, had played an active role in politics. However, her loss in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 led her to go low profile in active politics. Following pressure from peers, party workers and political circles, she decided to make a comeback by fighting the Nizamabad MLC by-polls. With a grand victory in the MLC polls, Kavitha is all set to enter the Assembly as a member of the Legislative Council. Her supporters are celebrating her victory and discussing as to what portfolio she might get.
Will she get that chance?
Though none had doubts about Kavitha winning the MLC elections, buzz was on in political circles about her getting the ministerial berth in the Telangana Cabinet and regarding the portfolio that will be offered to her. Now, along with CM KCR there are 18 other members in the Council of Ministers. In case Kavitha needs to get inducted into the Cabinet, one of the ministers need to resign or sacrifice their post, else the government needs to remove one from the council. As there are no vacancies at present, it has to be seen whether Kavitha may get a chance in the Cabinet or not.
