Even though ‘anthology’ films are not new to Hollywood and Bollywood, they are still relatively new in South Indian films. Films like ‘Vedam’ featured this concept earlier. Now OTT giant Amazon Prime is trying this anthology concept by making a film with five different stories directed by five different directors.
Majority of ‘anthology’ films generated mediocre results at box office in India starting from RGV’s ‘Darna Mana Hai’. Recently released ‘World Famous Lover’ also tried this concept partially but flopped miserably at box office due to its lacklustre script. But these kind of experiments are well suited to OTT platforms and Netflix has already achieved success with its anthology ‘Lust Stories’. To compete with it, Amazon Prime has readied its ‘Putham Pudu Kaalai’ directed by Suhasini Maniratnam, Rajiv Menon, Gautham Menon, Karthik Subbaraj and Sudha Kongara Prasad.
Shruti Haasan, Anu Haasan, Andrea Jeremiah, Jayaram, Urvashi, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ritu Varma, MS Bhaskar and Bobby Simha are among the cast of ‘Putham Pudu Kaalai’. The trailer which was released on Monday is riveting and we have to wait and see whether audiences appreciate this experiment or not.
